06/19/2015 – I tried my hand at air layering.
Step 1 – Prune out branches to get a clear surface
Step 2 – Make girdling cuts about 2 inches long. Make a cut along the branch and start peeling off the bark. Make sure to remove all the bark to prevent the wound from healing/bridging over.
Step 3 – Sprinkle some rooting hormone powder over the stripped area. Also mix some of the hormone with a mix of peat moss and vermicompost. Moisten the potting mix nicely but it should not drip. Slide Fill up a clear plastic bag with cut ends on both sides over the stripped area. Tie the lower end and start filling the bag with the potting mix. Tie up the upper end of the bag and ensure the potting mix covers the stripped area all around. Also pack the potting mix slightly to get rid of air pockets.
Step 4 – Cover the bag with aluminum foil to insulate from the sun and lock in the moisture.
